OVERVIEW
Barry van Niekerk is a seasoned 1st Assistant Director with more than 30 years of experience in the South African film and television industry, having started his career as a runner in 1994 before working across every department on set. He brings an intimate understanding of the entire production process, from the first script read through to final wrap, and is known for his calm, positive leadership and clear communication under pressure. His credits span major local and international feature films, TV series and documentaries, including Fool's Gold, Death of a Whistleblower, Catch Me a Killer and XPATS. Barry also spent two years at MORE-Global as a Director, helming television commercials and social media content for global brands across the USA, Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Asia. His enduring passion, however, remains his craft as a top professional 1st Assistant Director.
