OVERVIEW
Ruy Filipe is a Cape Town–based costume designer with over three decades of experience across international feature films, television series, documentaries and commercials. Filipe holds an Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema diploma from Lisbon and founded the costume house Ikaya of Costumes, which he leads as CEO. Recognised as one of South Africa's most accomplished costume designers, his credits include Terry George's Hotel Rwanda, Darrell Roodt's Dangerous Ground and Cry, the Beloved Country, Gavin Hood's A Reasonable Man, and Justin Chadwick's Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom. His work has earned a Canadian Gemini Award for Best Costume Design, a SAFTA Award for Mandela: Long Road to Freedom, and multiple further SAFTA nominations and wins, most recently for Silverton Siege in 2023.
